On January 26, Namrata Anand (12) was announced to the school as an Intel Science Talent Search Finalist. Mark Pettinger returned with yet another check to reward her research efforts in the field of astrophysics.

The Speech and Debate teams faced a busy and successful month, winning three tournament titles over the course of early January: the Myers Park Laird Lewis Tournament, the Public Forum Tournament of Champions, and the James Logan Martin Luther King Jr. Tournament.
